Meet the Team: Laura Guild, Senior Event Manager

14 April 2025 Written by Ultimate

Meet Laura Guild – Senior Event Manager, master of calm under pressure, and our go-to for managing the most complex, high-profile productions with style and grace. Since joining Ultimate in 2022, Laura has brought her trademark energy and calm to every event, from slick corporate showcases to full-blown theatrical spectacles.

“From my go-to event essentials and dream venue pick, to what my theme tune would be (hint: it’s an iconic 90s anthem), here's a little insight into life behind the scenes at Ultimate…”

If event planning was an Olympic sport, what would you win gold in?

Definitely problem-solving under pressure – but doing it calmly. It’s one thing to get the job done, but staying cool-headed while the unexpected happens is key. Drama doesn’t help anyone when you’re fixing draping or dealing with a supplier issue on the fly.

What’s the best client feedback you’ve ever received?

We always do debriefs with our clients and agents after an event – it’s one of the best bits. It’s less about one standout quote and more about the overall experience. Most clients just have a brilliant time, and that’s what matters. We celebrate wins with them, reflect on the learnings, and it always feels like a proper team effort – from bar staff to cloakroom and catering.

What’s one thing you always have on you at an event?

My phone – always. I have it on a lanyard because I’d 100% lose it otherwise. We run WhatsApp groups with clients, suppliers, and the team, so staying connected (and not leaving it on a cocktail table) is vital.

What do you enjoy most about being part of Ultimate, and how has your role evolved over time?

The team. Hands down. We’re a tight-knit bunch and that’s what makes even the wildest event days enjoyable. I joined in June 2022 as an Event Manager focusing on Old Billingsgate and have since evolved into more of an operational lead, liaising with our sister company Create and supporting our amazing project managers with processes and planning across the board.

What’s one thing clients are often surprised to learn about the behind-the-scenes of event planning and delivery?

The contrast! You step into a beautifully lit venue with incredible styling, and then one doorway later you’re in a fluorescent-lit back-of-house area full of crates and gaffer tape. Even in the most historic or high-spec buildings, there’s always that bit that breaks the illusion.

You’ve got the pick of our Ultimate venues—where are you hosting your dream event?

I’m biased, but it has to be Old Billingsgate. The architecture is iconic, the history is rich, and the views of the Thames are just unbeatable. Plus, the terrace is perfect for people-watching with a Pimms in hand.

From summer soirées to festive blowouts, which type of event gets you buzzing—and why?

The complex ones – the bigger, bolder and more intricate, the better. I love anything with a full set build and transformation element. One of my favourites was a “Twisted Circus” takeover at Old Billingsgate, complete with immersive performers, fire acts, and a full fairground vibe. It was theatrical, creative and unforgettable.

QUICK-FIRE ROUND

Personal theme song?

“Praise You” by Fatboy Slim

If Ultimate were a cocktail…?

Espresso Martini – because we’re always switched on and full of energy.

If you could have any superpower?

To speak every language fluently. It would be amazing to fully immerse in any culture and communicate effortlessly wherever I go.

Most surprising thing on your bucket list?

Learn to ride a bike.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life?

Beef birria tacos from Borritos – dipped in rich consommé. Not the healthiest, but totally worth it.
